Professional Photography and Video Editing : by Rob Jones
I was born in Surrey, UK in May 1964 but moved to the south coast in West Sussex when I was six. The next decade and a half were taken up with wind surfing, driving, having fun and generally growing up.
My introduction to photography and videography came when I was fortunate enough to get a job with 'Project Orbis' (now Orbis International) as an audio/visual technician. Part of this incredibly exciting and rewarding job involved videoing and photographing heads of state, eye surgery and all manner of different subjects as I travelled the world.
After Orbis I moved to Jamaica, shipping my equipment and portfolio. It never arrived. The greatest upset was my portfolio of course, it was irreplaceable. When would I ever have the chance to visit Peru, Guatemala, China, Myanmar, Sudan and the two dozen or more other countries again, many of which will never be the same again, for example, Eastern Europe.
It was then at least ten years before I picked up a camera again.
After a few years sojourn in France, England and the Netherlands I returned with my Jamaican wife and daughter to the Caribbean, settling in Negril.
It was here that the opportunity came for me to start shooting again. I covered reggae concerts, corporate events, far too many weddings and a daily story for a popular web site. This was also my introduction to the digital age. From 3/4'' video tape to DV and 35mm to, mostly, a Sony f828 digital camera.
I have since returned to West Sussex and just one year ago purchased my first ever digital camera, a Samsung GX 10 DSLR, and I'm starting to enjoy photography again.
